Steinsetfjorden rundt is a nice cycling tour in Nord-Etnedal. It partly leads through forest, partly trough the village with open cultural landscape and small patches of land that stretch down to the lake. Some years ago, a cycling path was constructed along the southern shore, making it possible to circle the lake. A little more than half of the trip is on a sealed road, the rest is on gravel.

Directions:
From the mountain lodge Nythun Høyfjellstue (parkering against fee), continue on your bike along the road in a north-easterly direction downhill to Lake Steinsetfjorden. After 3 km, at Skrindefeten where there is a large parking place on the right-hand side, take to the right onto the cycling path that leads along the southern shore of the lake (gravel). After 4 km, keep to the right. After another 2 km, you reach the main road (sealed, no. 243). Exit to the left.
There’s a rest area that is nice for fishing and offers a beautiful view. Now the road leads uphill for about 2 km, before it gently slopes down to the lakeside again. After crossing the bridge over the river Skrinda, you’re back where you took off the road. Now the steep, 3 km long ascend back to Nythun remains.

Alternative: Drive 3 km past Nythun and park your car at the big parking place at Skrindefeten on the right-hand side of the road at the start of the cycling path. From here, the tour is family friendly, a bit hilly with 183 m elevation gain and 13,5 km long. Suitable for children from approx. 8 years if they can manage car traffic. 

Tips: After approx. 1 km along the cycling path along the southern shore, you arrive at a rest shelter with an outdoor barbeque. This is also a nice place for a swim in the lake.
