Skardåsen circuit
About
This tour follows groomed tracks for both classical and free style. It is a much used exercising trail for the local ski group and is in very good condition. Please check the latest grooming status at http://skisporet.no
From Fagernes, drive on Skrautvålsvegen towards Skrautvål for approx. 7 km. 300 m past the Skrautvål church, turn right onto Svarthamarvegen towards Valdres Skisenter (keep straight ahead in the crossing after approx. 1 km). Park at the ski stadium. The Skardåsen trail starts at the stadium. Turn right uphill and follow the yellow markings (on top of the stadium hill, choose the left track that leads further uphill).
This is a round trip that can be taken in either direction. However, most people do it clockwise and that’s the way we have chosen to describe it. So, when you reach the first crossing after the first longer ascend, keep straight ahead (you will come from back on the trail to the right later). There’s another long ascend of approx. 2 km before you reach a large moor flat, Selbustølsmyrane. For another approx. 2 km, the track is quite flat and follows the moor’s left edge along the wood line. In the “Sinsenkrysset” crossing, keep to the left for another long ascend that will take you to the summit point of Skardåsen (1071 m.a.s.l.) above the tree line with a stunning wide view (keep straight ahead further uphill in the crossing approx. 500 m before the summit). Continue the round trip over the summit in rolling terrain with lots of smaller ups and downs, before a longer downhill run takes you fast to the crossing at Neverset (approx. 2 km from the summit). Keep to the right/straight ahead for another fun run downhill, before it’s flat over the moors again (this time on the opposite side). The trips ends in a long downhill run to the final crossing where you kept straight uphill in the beginning. Turn left here for the return to the ski center (4,5 km from Neverset).
The whole round trip is 12,8 km long.
