Ridderrennet and Ridderuka - Beitostølen
About
Welcome to Ridderuka at Beitostølen, the world's largest annual winter sports week for people with a visual and/or disability impairment. The week ends with the traditional Ridderrennet. The week brings together 400-500 participants from 10-20 different nations, and is arranged for the 59th time in 2024.
There is a focus on both adventure-based outdoor activities with mountain sports, dog sledding, snowshoeing and kiting. In addition, there are training and competitions in cross-country skiing, biathlon, downhill skiing and snowboarding on the program. Together with the association Ridderrennet, the Norwegian Sports College and the Beitostølen Health Sports Center are co-organizers and are responsible for attendants and arena respectively. The Norwegian Armed Forces is our supporter for the implementation of the event.
The social aspect is important, and when the day's training sessions and competitions are done, there is varied entertainment - everything from after-ski, concerts, sledding night, stand-up comedians, auction, talent show and awards ceremony.
We can thank Erling Stordahl (1923-1994) for both the Ridderrennet and the Beitostølen Health Sports Center. He was the first resident of Beitostølen and the visionary ambassador and strong personality who worked energetically to ensure that a visible handicap does not hinder nature and cultural experiences.
