Sustainability in Valdres

The Valdres region takes sustainability seriously and has therefore been working hard to be certified as a “Bærekraftig Reisemål” (a sustainable tourist destination). This certification/designation scheme is developed by Innovation Norway in order to systematize and ensure long-term work towards increased sustainability in Norwegian tourist destinations. Being a sustainable tourist destination is primarily about finding the right balance between

• Preservation of nature, culture, environment
• Strengthening of social values
• Financial viability

Through the sustainability process, the Valdres region aims to strengthen the content of the Valdres brand, raise the quality of the experiences for those who visit us, create more year-round attractions, and make it easier to make good environmentally conscious choices. Sustainability must guide the further development of Valdres so that the region becomes a good place to be for both tourists, part-time residents and permanent residents throughout all four seasons.
