Torfinnsbu
About
Torfinnsbu is a very good base and starting point for hikes and mountain ascends in south-eastern Jotunheimen Nationalpark. The cabin is located on the northern shore of Lake Bygdin, at the foothills of the mighty Torfinnstindande.
Facilities
Torfinnsbu is a self-service cabin with a pantry where you can buy dried food and canned food. During summer, there's a warden at the cabin. There are approx 30 bed spaces and most of what you need of kitchen appliances, food and bedspreads. There is no electricity or running water, but it has a gas stove, candles and water outside. You need to bring your own sheets/sleeping bag and the general DNT-key. There is one designated cabin with two beds and two cages for dogs if you want to bring your four-legged friend.
How to get there
Torfinnsbu is easily accessible in the summer season. You can either follow a marked trail from the parking area at Fagerstrand, close to Bygdin Mountain Hotel, or you can take the scenic boat ride with M/B Bitihorn which leaves directly from Bygdin and stops close to Torfinnsbu. During the wintertime, you can ski to Torfinnsbu from Beitostølen (and from Bygdin when the road is plowed for snow).
