About
Ryeberget is one of the six historic beacons in Valdres. It is situated on the hillside above lake Strandefjorden. The walk there is short and easy but a little steep and offers a great view over the lake and gives you the opportunity to learn more about beacons.
Get your beacon collecting card at one of the tourist offices in Valdres or from the postbox at one of the beacons and visit and stamp all six of them, and you get a nice diploma as "beacon guard".
Directions:
From the E16 in Ulnes or road 51 at Leira, turn onto the Vestsidevegen along Lake Strandefjordens and drive until Heggelund. Turn uphill towards Hovrudbygda/Håvrud. Pass the toll station and exit to the right onto a forest road (accessible but partly in poor condition) approx. 1,2 km later. Keep first left at the old summer farm and later right (Ryeberget is signed). Park your car on the left-hand side, 500 m after the last crossing.
On the other side of the road, the trail to Ryeberget (signed and marked) starts on a tractor track, takes in a turn to the left and reaches a gully. Here it turns right downhill in the gully. Later it becomes a narrow and steep path that ends at the beacon.
