Ridderrennet and Ridderuka - Beitostølen
About
Welcome to Ridderuka at Beitostølen, the world's largest annual winter sports week for people with a visual and / or disability impairment. The week ends with the traditional Ridderrennet Saturday 30 March. The week collects 4-500 participants from 10-20 different nations, and is arranged for the 56th time in 2019.
There is a focus on both adventure-based outdoor activities with mountain sports, dog sledding, snowshoeing and kiting. In addition, there are training and competitions in cross-country skiing, biathlon, downhill skiing and snowboarding on the program. Together with the association Ridderrennet is the Norwegian Sports College and Beitostølen Health Sports Center is co-organizer. The Norwegian Armed Forces are our supporter of the implementation of the event.
The social aspect is important, when today's training sessions and competitions are done there is varied entertainment - everything from after-ski, concert, sleigh night, stand-up comedian, auction, talent show and awards ceremony.
We can thank Erling Stordahl (1923-1994) for both the Ridderrennet and the Beitostølen Health Sports Center. He was the first resident of Beitostølen and the visionary ambassador and strong personality who worked energetically to ensure that a visible handicap does not hinder nature and cultural experiences.
